We minimise any risk of local pollution from our activities and we monitor and measure our performance.
The main risks of pollutant spillage are from losses of stored fuel, including diesel oil stored in tanks at our fixed installations to power emergency generators.
O2 recognises that storing fuel oil in large tanks always represents a risk and work to ensure that all such tanks have secondary protection. At present the tanks in most of our Operating Businesses already meet this criterion, with the exception of O2 UK which has 91 per cent secondary protection, and Telefónica O2 Czech Republic which has 36 per cent secondary protection. Overall, O2 has 246 tanks, with secondary protection for 167 (68 per cent).
Telefónica O2 Czech Republic reported that 40 litres of stored oil were lost through leakages in 2006. No other losses were reported.
