O2 is committed to the highest standards of health and safety for our employees – but we also want people to be able to manage their own general health and wellbeing.
During the year we continued to roll out relevant programmes across the business.
In the UK we launched an online ‘personal fitness trainer’. Employees subscribing to the programme get an online pedometer to track the number of steps they take each day. In its first three months, over 600 people had joined the scheme.
In the UK we have also continued to run stress-awareness workshops, launched in 2005. We are now supplying chiropractic clinics and offer mobile massages, mainly in our call centres.
In support of the UK Government’s drive to help people who want to quit smoking, and in response to new and proposed smoking restrictions in Scotland and the UK, we launched a trial stop-smoking initiative during the year. This was supported by a text-message campaign and website.
In Germany, we established a subsidised on-site gym – Studio 2 - at our Munich headquarters and offer a wide range of sports activities at all locations, alongside massage, advice on a range of health issues, including heart disease, and free flu vaccinations. We also provided stop-smoking information to our employees, with assistance from the German Cancer Research Centre.
In Ireland, where we first launched co-ordinated wellbeing projects, we expanded the Perfect Balance programme to include free membership to Weight-Watchers, a gym at our headquarters, as well as access to yoga and massage.
When O2 Ireland moved into new headquarters in Dublin, employees were asked to influence the design of the building. Incorporated suggestions included a games room and a state-of-the-art canteen with extended opening hours.
