Dublin - Telefónica O2 Ireland today announced that visitors to its official website – www.o2.ie - can now avail of a new accessibility tool called BrowseAloud. The tool, which is free, enables users with literacy difficulties, dyslexia and mild visual impairments to listen to the website content which is read aloud.
Users can personalise the product to suit their own individual needs. For example, colours, text size and speed of voice can all be altered as required. Other key features of BrowseAloud include an option to convert text to MP3 format and a talking dictionary. It can also read HTML, PDF documents, hyperlinks and tags behind images.
Commenting on the new tool, Ita Lehane, Head of Operational Excellence - Telefónica O2 Ireland, said, ‘At O2 we are committed to making all elements of our business accessible, both for our customers and for our staff. Using the BrowseAloud tool, visitors to the O2 website will now be able to hear information on everything from our latest mobile phones and price plans to new services which we have launched”.
The new BrowseAloud tool is free to download at www.o2.ie/accessibility.
Most recently, O2, in conjunction with disability organisation Kanchi, launched the O2 Ability Awards for a fourth year. The awards recognise best practice by businesses in the inclusion of people with disabilities, whether they are employees or customers. Organisations interested in entering this year can do so online at www.theabilityawards.com before 6 November 2009.
