O2 - see what we can do to protect our children

O2 has partnered with Childnet International, a leading organisation in child internet safety and the Personal Finance Education Group (pfeg) to produce a short film on mobiles and child protection.

The film focuses on the dilemma many parents face, balancing parental preferences against children’s needs.   What are the concerns of parents? What is O2 doing? Where can I get help and advice?

Many young people see their mobiles as a way of life, important for staying in touch, helping to ensure safety and security and for having fun. However, we recognise that there is a lot of debate about whether children should own mobile phones.

We respect parents’ rights to consider the pros and cons of allowing children to own or use mobile phones and, we are committed to educating our customers about how to keep children safe.

In 2002, we led debate within the mobile industry on child protection, alerting people to the risks associated with children making inappropriate contacts or viewing unsuitable content.

Child safety continues to be one of our top priorities. We are commited to this work and will continue to alert parents and their children to the potential dangers of mobile use and the safety mechanisms that can be put in place.

To complement this, we have also recently launched a dedicated child protection website: http://protectourchildren.o2.co.uk/ providing practical advice on all aspects of child protection, from text bullying to harmful web content.

If you have any questions about its content, or would like to find out more about what O2 is doing in this area, then please do not hesitate to contact us at protectourchildren@o2.com
