Corporate Responsibility Report 2008

New Taskforce supports our goals

We want to meet the future needs of our customers, employees and the communities in which we live and work.

During 2008 we consulted with Forum for the Future, our employees, consumers and other non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) on how best to achieve this.

As a result, a revised governance structure replaced the previous Corporate Responsibility (CR) Council in December 2008.

Leading the initiative, chief executive Ronan Dunne is chair of our new Sustainability Taskforce. The Taskforce, through which we now manage our strategy, meets every six weeks and reports to the Telefónica O2 UK Board at six monthly intervals.

In addition, the Corporate Responsibility/ Environment Working Group, which is responsible for achieving our CR and environmental targets and cost savings, meets to set initiatives and discuss progress.

This working group brings together people from around the business to drive a three-year programme. We plan to:

  • Grow our fanbase - by attracting new customers and retaining old ones with greener, more efficient and cost effective devices and applications
  • Build our future - by championing sustainable lifestyles internally and externally
  • Get fighting fit for our customers - by having the most efficient network and energy management systems

Our ambition is to inspire change with: devices that encourage sustainable living; services that reduce our impact on the planet; projects that help bring people together for good causes.

Proposals include 11 key projects, which began to roll out in 2008.

We aim to behave responsibly at all times and, through regular and independent auditing, to continuously measure our performance.
