Tackling climate change Together

We are proud to be a founder member of 'Together', which aims to help every household in the UK reduce their CO2 emissions by at least one tonne over three years. That’s a potential saving of 25 million tonnes in the UK – more than the combined household emissions of Scotland and Wales.

Companies who founded the campaign engage with 250 million consumers internationally.

Energy Saver Options

As part of ‘Together’, O2 encourages new customers to consider keeping their mobile phones and take up a Simplicity sim-only offer with ebilling. By not taking a new handset, each customer reduces CO2 emissions by 7.5kgs.

We're also incentivising customers to keep hold of their handsets when renewing their contracts. For those that do take a new phone we're offering to recycle their old one. And for everyone choosing any of these options, O2 makes a £5 donation to the O2 Energy Saver Fund.

People will continue to want new phones and the benefits they bring. However, with 70 million active mobiles in the UK alone the collective carbon savings by keeping handsets longer are massive. We want to give our customers an environmental choice and apply incentives to help them to make the right one.

O2 Energy Saver Fund

In partnership with the Energy Saving Trust, an organisation dedicated to cutting CO2 emissions - the main greenhouse gas causing climate change – we are promoting sustainable and efficient use of energy.

O2 launched the fund in June 2007 to encourage communities to bid for an energy saving consultation.

Successful bidders receive free expert advice from the Energy Saving Trust, and each property involved benefits from free solutions, including cavity wall and loft insulation, energy-efficient light bulbs, draught proofing and other energy-saving products.

The first community to receive an energy makeover was Ansdell Villas Road in Rainhill, Prescot, Merseyside, with work starting in December 2007.

‘We have become a very dedicated community group committed to addressing environmental and quality of life issues in the neighbourhood. The O2 Energy Saver Fund has been a great way for us to make our homes warmer and more energy efficient and to help save the planet.’
