Working with other telecommunications companies helps us to operate responsibly and sustainably

On key social issues, such as health and network safety, Telefónica O2 UK participates in and co-funds several industry groups:

• We chair the Mobile Data Association, GSM Europe’s Health and Environmental Working Group and the Mobile Operators’ Association Compliance Working Group in the UK.
• We are a member of the worldwide industry body, the GSM Association, a trade association representing global GSM mobile phone operators, and we are members of the GSM Association’s health policy working group and EMF Expert Panel.
• We help fund the independent Mobile Telecommunications Health Research programme.

Operators across the industry continue to co-operate to implement the UK voluntary Code of Content on the responsible use of mobile phones. This code is the foundation of our initiatives to protect young people and other vulnerable groups from inappropriate content such as pornography.

During the year we continued to work with major suppliers and other operators on labour standards and environmental practices in our supply chain. A Telefónica O2 UK employee represents Telefónica on the Board of the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) and co-chairs its supply-chain working group.
