Corporate Responsibility Report 2006

Non-discrimination and human rights

Telefónica O2 Europe has a strict policy of non-discrimination.1

The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labour Organization declarations guide our employment policies. We aim to comply with European Union and national legislation on employment issues.

We benchmark our policies against these universal codes to ensure compliance and we have established a human rights policy that underscores this approach.

We are committed to integrating our human rights policy into our day-to-day operations across the Group.

We aim to treat everyone fairly, impartially and without prejudice, regardless of race, nationality, ethnicity, religious affiliation, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, age, disability or caring responsibilities.

We have put in place several codes of conduct, policies and principles to achieve this commitment. These include our Business Principles; ethical procurement policy; Human Resources policies; and health, safety and environment policies.

In 2006, we began to integrate these policies into our now wider organisation, bringing the new business in the Czech Republic in line with our procedures.

In the UK we incorporated new legislation on age discrimination, which became effective on 1 October 2006. This prevents unfair discrimination on age grounds – not only for employment, but also in training and development, retirement and redundancy.

1 In 2006, no cases of discrimination were recorded in the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man and Germany
