Corporate Responsibility Report 2006

General waste

Base stations and switching centres

Network equipment

Wherever possible we make sure our network equipment is designated for re-use or upgrade. So we do not expect a lot of waste from the roll-out of our third generation (3G) networks.

Redundant network equipment is processed for re-use and recycling through our accredited waste management partners.

Offices

In the UK we have established procedures to separate, collect and recycle paper, plastic bottles and plastic cups in our larger offices.

We have now begun to look closely at how some of our contractors handle waste.

In Ireland, we continue to have an integrated waste management and recycling process, separating recyclable materials at source at all sites.

We have also implemented a new biodegradable waste-food processing system into the employee restaurants in our main offices in Ireland.

A collection service now operates in Dublin to collect the organic dry compostable material that remains. This reduces the amount of waste going to landfill and was extended to Limerick during 2006.

Genral waste collected and recycled, offices and call centres
