Corporate Responsibility report 2005/06

IT waste

We work with our key partners to handle IT-recyling and waste disposal, which includes a complete solution for cathode-ray tubes from computer screens.

As well as recycling, much of our redundant equipment is refurbished and resold. We also support schools and developing countries by donating refurbished computer equipment.

In Germany and Ireland O2 we aim to comply with the European Commission Waste, Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, which is being implemented in each of our main countries of operation. This requires us to provide processes for recovering redundant mobile handsets and accessories and we already operate well within its aims.

WEEE has yet to be implemented in the UK, where there is debate as to which enforcement agency will be responsible. We expect UK implementation by early 2007.
