The mobile sector in Germany
Number of employees:
At the end of 2004 a total of 225,100 people were employed by telecommunications service providers in the fixed and mobile network sectors. 29,000 of these, 12.9 per cent, were employed in the mobile sector (network operators and service providers).
Mobile users:
At the end of 2005 there were 79.2 million mobile customers in Germany – equivalent to a penetration rate of 96 per cent. 12.3 per cent of these are O2 customers.
Revenue of the telecoms industry:
In 2005 the total revenue of the telecoms industry in Germany was in the region of €68.3 billion. Some €28 billion of this, or 40.1 per cent, was generated by the mobile providers (network operators and service providers).
