Fundraising by text in the UK

There is debate about the relative benefits and costs of fundraising by text - accompanied by some cynicism that the practice is more about profit than charity.

We are pleased that our technology lends itself favourably to effective fundraising, but are also keen to dispel some myths (see 'Live 8 – the facts').

During the year our fundraising-by-text activities included the Make Poverty History Live 8 appeal and various TV-based appeals for Comic Relief.

Fundrasing by text took off with the successful tsunami appeal in 2005, which was supported by all the mobile networks. Mobile operators provided their network services at cost and Government agreed to waive VAT; operators are generally willing to make a gesture at times of disaster or wide national support for important causes.
