We want children who are allowed a mobile phone to be safe with the technology and for parents to be comfortable with the content available to them.
O2 publishes a series of child-protection leaflets to alert parents and carers to the risks faced by their children when using mobile phones. These can be downloaded at the links below:
• What your child's mobile can do
• Sensible use of camera phones
• Safe use of mobile chatrooms
• Helping children deal with nuisance calls
• Protecting your child against handset theft.
Staff in our shops can provide copies of these leaflets as well as general advice. O2 is keen to work with governments, charities and educational organisations to develop broader campaigns.
We have little control over content published on the open Internet. But we do offer a ‘parental control’ setting, which restricts WAP browsing to our own WAP sites.
To activate parental control within the UK, simply dial 61818 from the O2 phone that the restriction is to be applied to, and follow the prompts.
Premium-rate text messages that contain adult content or access to chat services can also be barred. To activate these bars, customers should call their service provider.
