O2 held a third Community Awards event at the 'British Academy of Film & Television Arts' (BAFTA) in London, on 12th October.
The event was hosted by Peter Erskine, Chairman and CEO, O2 plc. This annual celebration recognises the amazing achievements and contributions that O2 people from across the business have made within their local communities and abroad, through fundraising, development work and volunteering; each of them demonstrating a determined and compassionate approach to making people’s lives better.
There were inspirational speeches from Catherine Millan, a student who turned her life around with the help of the peer mentoring programme run by Weston Spirit and O2; and Britain’s most successful Paralympian Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson OBE. Last year’s winner - Tommy Harrison of Manx Telecom - gave an incredibly moving speech on how the 'O2 Community Award' prize money has had a huge positive impact on children’s lives in Romania.
Accolades were presented in three categories, with finalists representing all O2 operating businesses. Swantje Hartmann of O2 Germany clinched the 'Fit for Life' award for her inspirational work with children and young people in the community of Delmenhorst, Germany.
The 'At Home' award was presented to Jason Corbett of O2 Ireland for his work fundraising for Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, an acute paediatric hospital.
Ghouse Fazaluddin of O2 Airwave won the 'International' award for his work with the Imdad Fund, which has, in the last year, provided support to victims of the Asian earthquake.
